Registration is now open for the first ever Veteran’s Energy Seminar, a one-day, immersive education program that will teach military veterans about global energy security issues with the goal of encouraging participants to seek leadership positions or higher education in energy policy and entrepreneurship.

The format of the program is based on training for Foreign Service Officers by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Energy Resources. The seminar will include classroom sessions and panels with local experts on global energy issues, an overview of military strategy and operational energy, domestic and global energy markets, international policy, and national security implications. The day will end with a film screening and discussion on The Age of Consequences with the Chicago Council on Science and Technology.

The U.S. military is the single largest consumer of energy resources in the world. Military service members have a firsthand experience with the importance of sustainable operational energy and the impact of our energy dependencies on military strategy. As they enter the civilian world, many veterans rely on this base of experience and self-teaching to make decisions regarding future employment. While there are numerous programs available to veterans for workforce training and job placement in the energy industry, there are very few educational opportunities to learn about energy security and international energy issues which would turn a veteran’s unique experience with energy supply into service for a stronger energy security future. The Veteran’s Energy Seminar will fill this education gap to supplement the self-teaching that takes place after a service member leaves the military. The seminar is designed to inspire veterans to continue their service to the country after they leave the military by using their technical skills and knowledge to positively impact our national and energy security.

The event is open to all U.S. military veterans and reservists. Register by 14 November. Space is limited to 50 seats. The ticket price ($25) includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner with support from our sponsors.
